Safer homes week
22 - 26 October 2007
The over 65s are most at risk of having an accident at home and becoming seriously injured or killed as a result. Every day 1330 people over 65 have an accident in their home - almost half-a-million every year.
Age Concern Waltham Forest, National Grid and many other local organisations have teamed up to provide practical help, tips and advice on staying safe, warm and well to the borough's older people during Safer homes week at the end of October.
Three Safer homes week events are being held in the borough between 10.00am and 2.00pm on
| Monday 22 October | South Chingford Congregational Church, 61 Chingford Mount Road, Chingford E4 8LR |
| Wednesday 24 October | Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Centre, Cathall Road, Leytonstone E11 |
| Friday 26 October | Lloyds Park Theatre, Winns Terrace, Forest Road, Walthamstow E17. |
Older people will be able to find out more about the accident 'black spots' in their homes, how to use gas appliances safely and how to deal with bogus callers. As well as advice on gas safety, home security, energy efficiency and avoiding accidents and hazards, there will be a a Sloppy slipper exchange - a chance to swap old, worn slippers for a free new pair. Free refreshments will be available at each of the events.
If you would like a poster about these events, you can download a copy - download a Safer homes week poster [pdf copy].
