Annual General Meeting

About 100 people attend this year's AGM at the Epicentre early in November.

The AGM turned into a bit of a one-person show as our Director, Sheena Scott-Dunbar, had to cope with missing speakers, a dodgy microphone, unplanned changes to the order of business, presenting the Annual Report and run the meeting as well!

Sheena reported that the last year has been a successful one for Age Concern Waltham Forest - full details of what we've been doing are available in the Annual Report, sent to members before the AGM and available on our website.

Of course, one of the nicest parts of the AGM is the presentation of various awards that recognise the commitment our volunteers and sessional staff make to providing services for older adults in Waltham Forest. This year, a new award was introduced, the Sessional Staff Member of the Year award. This went to Tina Woolston for her work with Link-up and Linda Spillman for her work with the Hospital discharge services.

The Volunteer of the Year award was claimed by Sally Pamment and Tony Goodyear, both from the Walthamstow Deaf Club, and 12 Age Concern Waltham Forest volunteers received Long Service awards. They are Christine Adams, Susan Ash, Christine Eldridge, Dharmendra Jethwa, Mandy McEvoy and Abdulsattar Saifullah (2 years service); David Bruce, Val Butcher, Eve Kelsey and Pat Tomlinson (5 years); Linda McClean (10 years); and Dolly Skinner who has been a volunteer for an amazing 15 years. Well done everyone.

Four new members were elected to the Board of Trustees: Ann Lamb, Agneta Lewis, Andrew Gooch and Abdul Shakoor. Their skills will further strengthen the Board and help Age Concern Waltham Forest remain the leading local charity for older adults.

The AGM ended with a presentation and question and answer session from Barry Anderson, the local crime prevention officer and an opportunity for a chat and catching up with old friends over lunch.
