Expert patient programme
The Expert patient programme (EPP) is a self-management course for people with a long term health condition and aims to give people the confidence, skills and knowledge to manage their condition better and be more in control of their lives.
The EPP is a 6 week course held once a week for 2.5 hours and is led by trained volunteer tutors who live with a long-term health condition. By taking part in an EPP course, you will:
- learn new skills to manage your health condition, for example mananaging symptoms and managing pain
- develop confidence in the daily management of your specific condition
- develop coping skills and plan for the future
- find out how to deal with depression, stress and low self-image and esteem
- meet others and share similar experiences
- learn about developing more effective relationships with healthcare professionals.
The EPP can help people with chronic health conditions such as:
- arthritis
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), for example, chronic bronchitis and emphysema
- coronary heart disease
- diabetes.
